Ivanka Trump gave followers a glossy look inside Donald Trump Jr.’s beachside wedding weekend, but the internet quickly found another angle.

Trump Jr., 48, married Bettina Anderson, 39, on a private island in the Bahamas on Saturday. Several Trump family members made the trip for the destination ceremony. President Donald Trump did not.

His absence became the detail that swallowed the photos.

Trump said “circumstances pertaining to Government” kept him from attending his eldest son’s wedding. That explanation did not stop social media from turning Ivanka’s tropical photo dump into a political fight.

Ivanka Trump Shares Wedding Weekend Photos

On Monday, Ivanka posted nearly a dozen images from the Bahamas celebration to her 8.6 million Instagram followers.

The photos showed her with husband Jared Kushner, half-sister Tiffany Trump, sister-in-law Lara Trump, and her niece Kai Trump. In one shot, Ivanka and Kai stood on paddleboards in bright turquoise water. “The best paddleboard partner,” Ivanka wrote.

Another image showed the two posing in dresses surrounded by greenery. Other photos featured Ivanka near a large model ship with a bottle of wine, relaxing on the beach, and taking a selfie with Tiffany and Lara near a cabana lit with string lights.

One detail stood out. The photos did not appear to include Trump Jr. or Anderson. For a wedding weekend post, that raised some eyebrows.

Donald Trump Misses His Son’s Wedding

Trump had previously told reporters he hoped to attend the ceremony, but warned the timing was difficult.

“He’d like me to go,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “But it’s going to be just a small, little private affair, and I’m going to try and make it.”

The next day, he confirmed he would miss it. “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added that he felt it was important to remain at the White House during what he described as an important period.

Trump Jr. and Anderson reportedly want another celebration at the White House, where Trump and First Lady Melania Trump would attend.

Internet Turns The Wedding Into A Debate

Ivanka’s photos drew a split reaction.

Some users praised the setting and her appearance, with one commenter writing that she looked “fantastic” and “so fit.”

Others questioned why the family shared private wedding weekend photos at all, especially given frequent security concerns around public figures.

Then the comments turned political.

Critics brought up Trump’s absence, his golf schedule, government spending, and the family’s wealth. One user argued that Trump had time to golf but not attend his son’s wedding. Another criticized the family for holding a lavish celebration while “the whole world is in crisis mode.”

Trump Jr. was previously married to Vanessa Trump. They wed at Mar-a-Lago in 2005, had five children, and divorced in 2018. He later became engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, but that relationship ended in 2024 after he was photographed holding hands with Anderson.

Anderson has kept her own wedding posts minimal so far. On Monday, she shared an image of white fabric embroidered with “Mrs. Trump.”

The ceremony may have been private. The reaction was anything but.
