Donald Trump is facing new questions about his health after a medical analyst claimed the president may be showing signs of a serious sleep-related condition.

Dr. Jonathan Reiner raised concerns during a May 26 appearance on CNN, where he questioned whether Trump, who turns 80 next month, has received enough medical evaluation for what Reiner described as repeated daytime sleepiness.

The comments came as Trump visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for another physical exam and after online critics pointed to recent clips where the president appeared tired or spoke unclearly.

Doctor Raises Concern Over Trump’s Daytime Sleepiness

Speaking with CNN anchor Kate Bolduan, Reiner said Americans deserve a clear understanding of whether Trump is “fit for duty.”

The doctor pointed to several visible health concerns, including bruising on Trump’s hands and swollen ankles, both of which have fueled online speculation in recent months.

The White House has previously said the bruising was caused by frequent handshaking. Reiner, however, suggested the symptoms should be properly evaluated.

He also claimed Trump has appeared to nod off during official events and meetings. “The president has severe daytime somnolence,” Reiner said. “He falls asleep very often.” He added that Trump had allegedly fallen asleep during Oval Office and cabinet room meetings, and said there was concern that he may have appeared to doze off during Memorial Day observances at Arlington National Cemetery.

Reiner Warns Condition Could Carry Serious Risks

Daytime somnolence, also known as hypersomnia, refers to excessive sleepiness during the day.

Reiner said he wanted the White House to explain what medical evaluations had been done to determine why Trump appears to struggle with staying awake during daytime events.

He also warned that untreated sleep problems can be serious, especially in older adults. “Chronic insomnia is a severe illness,” Reiner said, adding that it can be linked to increased risks involving dementia, cognitive decline, and heart problems. The doctor said excessive daytime sleepiness may also raise the risk of heart attack.

“It’s a real problem,” Reiner said. “And the president appears to struggle to stay awake during the day.”

White House Denies Health Concerns

The Trump administration rejected the claims.

“President Trump is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history who is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises, and he remains in excellent health,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement to the Associated Press.

Trump also posted about his Walter Reed visit on Truth Social, writing that his 6-month physical had gone well. “Everything checked out PERFECTLY,” Trump wrote. “Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House.”

Slurred Speech Claims Add To Scrutiny

The health debate intensified after critics online circulated clips of Trump speaking to reporters and claimed he appeared to slur his words.

During one exchange, Trump said, “You have a rigged vote out there, that’s the problem. The votes are rigged.” He later added, “If we had Jesus Christ come down and count the votes, I would have won California.”

Some social media users questioned his speech patterns and argued the issue deserved more attention. “The slurred speech is really something else,” one user wrote.

For Trump’s supporters, the criticism is another attempt to turn normal public appearances into health speculation. For critics, the combination of bruising, visible fatigue, hospital visits, and speech concerns has made the question harder to ignore.
