Brendan Fraser is getting ready to return to ‘The Mummy’, and he knows fans have expectations.
The Oscar winner confirmed on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ that he is preparing to reprise his role as Rick O’Connell in the long-awaited fourth installment of Universal’s adventure franchise. Fraser, now 57, joked that he is working to get back into action-hero shape before filming.
“Well, we’re gonna get the band back together,” Fraser told Fallon. “The only way to do it. So, we are going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last twenty-whatever years.”
Brendan Fraser Says He Is Getting Back In Shape
Fraser made it clear that the new sequel is not just another franchise return. For him, it is the ‘Mummy’ movie fans have been asking about for more than two decades.
“I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are,’” Fraser said. “Then other ‘Mummy’ movies got made.”
He started teasing what the new movie might involve, then stopped himself before giving too much away. “What we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations,” he said, before adding, “I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”
Then came the line fans immediately grabbed onto. “However, please wish me luck,” Fraser said. “I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”
Fans Are Already Rooting For Him
Fraser’s comments quickly drew supportive reactions online, with many fans making it clear they want him back regardless of how close he gets to his old action-star build.
“Brendan, we want you regardless,” one fan wrote. “Your soul is the thing we love, your meat suit was just a bonus.”
Another added, “Muscle memory is real and Brendan used to be cut. If he can even get to 50% of what he used to be for ‘George of the Jungle’ he would be in better shape than most people.”
The response fits Fraser’s current public image. After years away from blockbuster leading-man roles, his comeback has been treated with unusual affection by fans who grew up with him.
‘The Mummy 4’ Brings Back A Familiar Team
Fraser starred in ‘The Mummy’ in 1999 and ‘The Mummy Returns’ in 2001 alongside Rachel Weisz. He returned again for ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ in 2008, though Weisz did not appear in that installment and Maria Bello took over the role of Evelyn Carnahan.
The new movie is expected to bring back Fraser and Weisz, with Radio Silence directing from a script by David Coggeshall. The film is expected to premiere on May 19, 2028.
For now, Fraser sounds excited, cautious, and very aware of the pressure. Rick O’Connell is coming back. The only question is how much running, fighting, and mummy-dodging his “57-year-old gear” can handle.
