Obama Dismisses ‘UFO Cover-Up Theory’ With A Blunt Take On Washington

Obama is not buying the alien cover-up theories, and he has a simple reason: Washington leaks too much.

The former president appeared on ‘The Late Show’ with Stephen Colbert, where he was pressed again on what he knows about UFOs, alien life, and the government’s supposed hidden secrets. Obama laughed off the idea that the federal government could keep a massive alien discovery quiet for long.

“One of the things you learn as president is the government is terrible at keeping secrets,” Obama said.

Then he gave the line that immediately traveled online.

“I promise you, some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend,” Obama joked.

Obama Says He Saw No Proof Of Alien Contact

The exchange followed a viral moment from February 2026, when Obama said, “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” during a podcast appearance. The comment sparked a wave of speculation online.

Obama later clarified on Instagram that he meant the universe is so vast that life elsewhere is statistically likely, but he saw no evidence during his presidency that extraterrestrials had contacted Earth.

That was also his point with Colbert. Obama did not dismiss the possibility of life somewhere in the universe. He dismissed the idea that the U.S. government has aliens hidden somewhere and somehow kept it quiet.

Obama Jokes He Could Handle First Contact

Obama also admitted he would like aliens to exist. Then he jokingly volunteered for the biggest diplomatic assignment imaginable.

“First contact, I think I would be a good emissary for the planet,” Obama said. “I’ve got some experience at statecraft and diplomacy. I’m friendly. So, I actually think I could do a pretty good job.”

The former president’s tone was light, but the timing was useful. UFO interest has spiked again after President Donald Trump directed the Pentagon and other agencies to release files related to UFOs, UAPs, and possible extraterrestrial life. The Pentagon has since begun releasing previously classified documents, with more expected in future batches.

Trump’s UFO Push Keeps The Debate Alive

Trump previously said at a Phoenix rally that UFO-related releases were coming “very soon.” He later directed relevant agencies to begin identifying and releasing government files tied to alien life, UAPs, and UFOs.

The Department of War’s UFO page says it is reviewing and releasing unresolved UAP-related records and historical documents in response to Trump’s transparency directive.

Obama’s answer now gives skeptics a different kind of sound bite. For him, the issue is not whether the universe could contain life. It is whether a sprawling federal bureaucracy could keep the biggest secret in human history without some underpaid guard posting a selfie.

His answer: not likely.
