Ryan Reynolds reportedly pushed Blake Lively toward settling her legal dispute with Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios after the case began threatening more than just her public image.
New reports claim Reynolds believed the long-running legal fight was starting to damage Lively’s career, reputation, and personal life. One insider claimed the actor saw the case becoming too costly in ways that had nothing to do with money. According to the source, Reynolds “knew the longer this dragged on, the more it would erode everything.”
Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Saw The Damage Building
Lively, 38, had reportedly become deeply invested in the case and wanted to keep defending herself.
One source claimed, “It wasn’t about winning anymore, it was about proving she was right.” The insider added, “She couldn’t see how much it was costing her in real time.”
According to another source, the situation eventually became personal enough that Lively had to reassess what she was willing to risk. The source claimed “the one thing she refused to lose was her marriage.”
That is where Reynolds reportedly played a key role. Sources say he encouraged Lively to step back from the fight before the case caused more damage at home and in Hollywood.
Blake Lively And Justin Baldoni Settled Before Trial
The legal dispute ended on May 4, shortly before the case was expected to go to trial.
Lively and Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, reached a settlement, with attorneys for both sides releasing a joint statement afterward. “The end product, the movie ‘It Ends With Us,’ is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” the statement read.
The statement also said the parties remained committed to raising awareness and supporting survivors of domestic violence. It added that concerns raised by Lively “deserved to be heard.”
“It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online,” the statement continued.
Most Claims Had Already Been Dismissed
The dispute began in December 2024, when Lively sued Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios. Her claims included sexual harassment, defamation, and other allegations.
Baldoni denied the allegations and later filed a defamation countersuit against Lively and Reynolds.
As the case developed, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed several claims. Baldoni’s countersuit was dismissed, along with many of Lively’s original claims, including sexual harassment.
By the time trial approached, only a smaller number of claims against Wayfarer Studios remained active. Baldoni himself was no longer listed as a defendant in the remaining counts.
Lively Returned To The Spotlight At The Met Gala
Hours after the settlement news broke, Lively made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Met Gala in New York.
She wore an Atelier Versace gown from the brand’s Spring 2006 collection with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. The look fit the night’s ‘Costume Art’ theme, but her most personal accessory was a custom Judith Leiber clutch featuring artwork by her four children: James, Inez, Betty, and Olin.
Lively explained that each child painted watercolors for the bag, allowing her to carry a piece of them with her on the carpet.
Reynolds has also publicly defended his wife. During an interview on ‘Sunday Sitdown,’ he said the situation reminded him how different online perception can be from private reality. “People have no idea what is really going on,” Reynolds said. He added, “I have never in my life been more proud of my wife.”
For Lively, the settlement may have ended the legal fight. But according to insiders, Reynolds’ reported push came from a bigger concern: making sure the case did not cost her something harder to repair.
