A TikTok fashion trend using audio tied to Charlie Kirk’s assassination has triggered heavy backlash, with Turning Point USA calling the clips “grotesque” and demanding their removal.
The controversy began after a video showed three women standing in casual clothes before cutting to party looks. The transition was synced to a short audio clip that reportedly captured Kirk’s final seconds, including his voice, a fatal gunshot, and screams from the scene.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was the victim of political violence. Now, critics say using that audio for outfit changes turns a real death into viral bait.
Turning Point USA Condemns The TikTok Trend
Turning Point USA responded on X after the clips began spreading online.
“Turning Point USA condemns in the strongest terms the TikTok audio trend that uses or references the assassination of our founder, Charlie Kirk, for entertainment,” the organization wrote.
The group did not soften its language.
“Charlie Kirk was the victim of a real act of political violence. Turning that into viral content is grotesque and dehumanizing. There is nothing harmless, funny, or acceptable about it,” the statement continued. “It reflects a culture that trivializes violence and reduces real human loss to a punchline.”
TPUSA also called on TikTok to remove the audio immediately.
“This has no place on TikTok. Or anywhere. This audio needs to be removed,” the organization said.
Critics Rip The Outfit Transition Clips
The clips drew outrage from conservative voices and other online observers as screenshots and reposts moved across X.
Former NCAA swimmer and conservative campaigner Riley Gaines criticized the trend, writing, “They claim to be morally superior all while celebrating and laughing at innocent death. It’s a joke to them.” She added, “These people are devoid of decency and humanity. Soulless ghouls.”
Brian Atlas also weighed in, writing, “Women post video using Charlie Kirk assassination sounds for outfit transition… this is gross. The ‘empathy’ side btw.”
Reverend Jordan Wells called attention to the same trend, saying the audio of Kirk being shot had become a transition sound for TikTok outfit videos. He argued that turning a man’s final moments into background noise for social media likes showed a deeply broken culture.
Progressive journalist Taylor Lorenz also highlighted the trend, noting that the audio was being used on TikTok for outfit transformations.
TikTok Says It Removed Violating Content
TikTok later confirmed that the audio and videos using it violated the platform’s rules.
“This does violate our policies, the audio does, and of course, the video,” a TikTok spokesperson said. “We’ve taken steps to remove them, and any kind of repostings or any other content using that audio.”
The company said the clips violated policies against violent material. “We don’t allow anything that glorifies violence or anything like that, so we would take that down, which we are,” the spokesperson added.
The backlash now goes beyond one video. For many critics, the issue is what happens when social platforms turn even a fatal political attack into a format for views, reactions, and quick outfit reveals.
