Dr. Sandra Lee built an empire by staying calm in rooms where patients felt terrified. Now, the doctor known as Dr. Pimple Popper is sharing her own frightening health scare. Lee revealed that she suffered an ischemic stroke while filming “Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out” in November. The moment forced the 55-year-old surgeon to stop, recover and rethink the pressure she had carried for years.

Dr. Pimple Popper Faced a Shock

Lee told People that she first thought she was having a hot flash. She became sweaty and felt unlike herself while seeing patients at her California practice. Later, the symptoms became harder to ignore. She noticed slurred speech, weakness on her left side and trouble controlling her hand.

For a surgeon, that last symptom hit especially hard. Lee relies on steady hands every day in her dermatology work. An MRI later confirmed she had suffered a stroke. She said part of her brain had died, a blunt detail that stunned fans.

Filming Stopped for Recovery

The health scare happened during production on Season 2 of her Lifetime series. Lee took a two-month break from filming as she worked through physical and occupational therapy. She has also said high blood pressure, cholesterol and stress contributed to the crisis. That admission gave the story a sharper warning beyond TV fame.

Lee has spent years helping patients face skin conditions that changed their confidence. This time, she became the patient with a long recovery ahead. She still noticed changes in speech and movement afterward. However, she has said she is now nearly back to normal.

A New Message for Fans

The stroke also arrived during a major life shift for Lee and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish. People reported that the couple had recently become empty nesters. Lee said the health scare brought them closer and pushed her to slow down. She has since leaned into family time, hobbies and a stronger focus on wellness.

Lee also wants fans to recognize stroke symptoms faster than she did. She has spoken about the stigma that can surround strokes in some Asian communities. Now, she wants people to act quickly when something feels wrong. For the doctor who became famous by helping others, the message is personal: health can change in one ordinary moment.
