Demi Moore is not slowing down at 63. If anything, she is stacking another major studio project right when her comeback run still has real heat.

The actress has joined Charlize Theron and Julia Garner in Amazon MGM’s new thriller ‘Tyrant’, a high-stakes film set in New York City’s elite fine-dining world. Plot details are still being kept quiet, but the setup already sounds like catnip for anyone into power, money, status, and the kind of pressure cooker drama that usually ends badly for someone.

Demi Moore Adds Another Big Title to Her Post-‘The Substance’ Run

Moore’s casting comes after a very strong stretch in her career. She earned major attention for 2024’s ‘The Substance’, where she played a fading star chasing youth through a mysterious drug with horrifying results. The role put her back in the center of the awards conversation and reminded Hollywood that she can still own a movie when given the right material.

That momentum has not cooled off. Moore also stars in Taylor Sheridan’s hit Paramount+ series ‘Landman’, where her role expanded in season two, and she is next set to appear with Keke Palmer and Naomi Ackie in Boots Riley’s crime comedy ‘I Love Boosters’, which recently premiered at SXSW.

Now she is stepping into another sharp, high-pressure project, this time with Theron and Garner, two actresses who know exactly how to work a tense thriller.

What We Know About ‘Tyrant’ So Far

Amazon MGM is keeping the official logline under wraps, but the film is described as a culinary thriller set inside New York’s rarefied fine-dining scene. That alone gives it a sleek, dangerous edge. Restaurants at that level are already built on ego, money, obsession, and control, so the backdrop is doing a lot of work here.

David Weil, known for ‘Hunters’ and ‘Invasion’, wrote and will direct the film. He adapted the script from a story he conceived with Cody Behan. Production is expected to begin in Los Angeles in the coming weeks with support from a California tax credit.

The producing team is also loaded. Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona of The Picture Company are producing alongside Theron and her Secret Menu partners Beth Kono and A.J. Dix. Weil will also produce with Natalie Laine Williams, while Stan Wlodkowski is attached as executive producer.

For Moore, this is another smart follow-up at the right time. At 63, she is not coasting on nostalgia or playing it safe. She is moving deeper into prestige, tension, and roles with bite. That is what makes this feel less like a victory lap and more like another serious return.
