Ruby Rose has gone public with a serious allegation against Katy Perry, and the claim is already setting off a new celebrity firestorm. In a series of social media posts, Rose said Perry sexually assaulted her at an Australian nightclub nearly 20 years ago. Perry’s camp responded fast and forcefully, calling the accusation false, dangerous, and reckless.
The timing alone makes this explosive. Rose says she has carried this for almost two decades and is only now speaking publicly. Perry, meanwhile, is facing renewed scrutiny over older claims that had already placed her name in uncomfortable conversations during the height of the #MeToo era.
Ruby Rose Says She Is Finally Telling Her Story
Rose first made the allegation in the comments of a Threads post about Perry. “Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a [damn] what she thinks,” she wrote.
She later posted more about why she chose to speak now. “I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly,” Rose wrote. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”
In another reply, Rose got even more personal. “Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer,’” she wrote. “But then I see this post and … tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you.”
Rose also said she planned to go to a police station to see whether any investigation could still be opened into “any of my experiences” of assault. She acknowledged statute-of-limitations concerns, then later posted, “I did it.”

Katy Perry Denies Claim As Old Allegations Return To Spotlight
Perry’s representatives did not leave much room for ambiguity. In a statement, her rep said, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.”
The statement also pushed back by pointing to Rose’s past public accusations against others, saying those claims had also been denied.
The allegation has also brought renewed attention to previous misconduct claims tied to Perry. In 2019, actor Josh Kloss, who appeared in her ‘Teenage Dream’ music video, accused her of exposing his private parts to friends without his consent. Around the same time, TV host Tina Kandelaki claimed Perry touched her inappropriately and tried to kiss her at an industry event. Then there was the widely discussed ‘American Idol’ audition moment in 2018, when contestant Benjamin Glaze said Perry kissed him without warning, though he later said he did not consider it sexual harassment.
Perry never directly addressed those earlier allegations at the time. In a 2020 interview with ‘The Guardian,’ she said she did not want to “distract from the real movement,” adding, “Anyone can say anything” and “I don’t want to add to the noise. I want to add to the truth.”
This latest accusation is now far bigger than a social media flare-up. Rose says she is finally speaking after years of silence. Perry says the claim is false. And once again, a celebrity scandal has turned into a battle over truth, trauma, and public belief.
