Justin Bieber’s Coachella return was supposed to be a huge moment. Instead, it turned into a mess that fans are still roasting online. The pop star drew heat after a stripped-down headlining set that many viewers called confusing, low-effort, and flat-out bizarre. The biggest complaint? Fans say a reported $10 million gig looked more like YouTube karaoke than a major festival performance.

The 32-year-old singer took the stage Saturday night in a hoodie, shorts, and sunglasses, keeping the setup minimal from the jump. That alone got people talking. Then the show itself sent the backlash into overdrive.

Fans Left Stunned By Bare-Bones Set

According to reports, Bieber opened with select tracks from his 2025 album ‘SWAG II’ before moving into a short run of older songs. But instead of giving the crowd a full-scale live set packed with his biggest hits, he reportedly played many of those tracks straight from a laptop while sitting on a stool.

At several points, he was seen scrolling through YouTube and pulling up his own music videos, then singing along with them. For some fans, it felt like an odd callback to his pre-fame days, when he posted clips online before breaking out with songs like ‘Baby’ and later building an era around albums such as ‘My World’ and ‘Believe.’ For others, it looked like a headliner barely trying.

One viewer wrote, “Not Justin Bieber scammed Coachella out of $10 million to play songs off of YouTube…” Another added, “Justin Bieber giving us one of the laziest performances of all time.”

Online Backlash Gets Brutal Fast

The criticism only got louder as the set went on. Bieber reportedly played ‘Stay’ with Kid Laroi about 30 minutes in, but many fans were still waiting for more of the older material they actually came to hear. Some were especially annoyed that songs like ‘Baby’ were cut short.

During the set, Bieber also searched up viral clips of himself, including his “standing on business” moment and the time he walked into a glass door. He even played old internet videos while the crowd watched from the field. That left a lot of people wondering what exactly they were watching.

One fan posted, “Justin Bieber is headlining Coachella, and it’s literally just YouTube karaoke.” Another called it “the worst performance I’ve ever seen,” while one more viewer wrote that it felt “very sad and depressing” to watch him rush through his old hits from a chair with a laptop.

Even Katy Perry got in on the joke, saying, “Thank God he has YouTube Premium.”

So, was it performance art, nostalgia bait, or just a wildly messy set? Fans seem to have made up their minds.
