Lil Nas X appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday as legal proceedings continued in a case involving battery charges stemming from a 2025 incident.

The Grammy-winning rapper, known for chart-topping hits including Old Town Road and Montero (Call Me by Your Name), arrived at the courthouse alongside his attorney, Christy O’Connor.

During the hearing, O’Connor requested a postponement in order to file a motion that would move the case into a diversion program. Such programs can allow defendants to avoid a criminal conviction if they complete treatment, counseling or other court-ordered requirements.

The charges originate from an incident in Los Angeles last August when authorities responded to reports of erratic behavior.

According to police reports, the situation escalated during the encounter with officers. Investigators allege the rapper removed his clothing and lunged toward a police officer, leading to his arrest.

Following the incident, Lil Nas X was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation amid concerns about a possible drug overdose.

Prosecutors have charged the musician with four felony counts related to battery against a peace officer.

Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

After the arrest, the rapper voluntarily checked into an inpatient treatment facility.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in state prison.

The judge has not yet ruled on the defense request to move the case into a diversion program, and the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
