Isla Fisher is embracing a new chapter following her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.
Months after the split from the comedian and actor, the Wedding Crashers star is speaking openly about how her life has changed since the end of their long relationship.
Fisher shared her thoughts while attending the TIME Women of the Year Gala on March 10, where she reflected on turning 50 and entering single life after nearly two decades with Cohen.
“I’m so great,” Fisher told People, describing the milestone birthday as surprisingly empowering.
“I turned 50. I was so nervous about that,” she admitted. “But it has felt so freeing. I feel so liberated.”
The actress also said her divorce contributed to that sense of freedom.
“There’s something about being divorced where you just feel like you could do anything,” Fisher said. “You could just do anything, and someone would be like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. She’s divorced.’ It’s so cool.”
Fisher and Cohen first announced their separation in April 2024, revealing that they had quietly filed for divorce the year before.
In a joint statement at the time, the former couple compared their relationship to a long tennis match.
“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” they wrote.
The pair finalized their divorce in June 2025 after a relationship that spanned nearly two decades, including 13 years of marriage.
Despite the split, Fisher and Cohen emphasized that they remain on good terms and continue to focus on raising their children together.
“Our divorce has now been finalised,” they said in a statement. “We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children.”
The two also asked the media to respect their children’s privacy as they adjust to the new chapter in their family life.
For Fisher, the transition appears to mark not just the end of a marriage, but the beginning of a period she describes as unexpectedly liberating.
