Kylie Jenner Reveals Backlash After Kylie Cosmetics Sold Out

Kylie Jenner is reflecting on the intense reaction she faced when Kylie Cosmetics first launched.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 28-year-old entrepreneur discussed the overwhelming response to her lip kits when the beauty brand debuted in 2015.

According to Jenner, the early success of the products also brought a wave of online backlash from frustrated fans who were unable to purchase the highly sought-after items.

“It wasn’t very exciting for me for the first year because I was so stressed out that everyone would harass me on Twitter at the time because they couldn’t get a lip kit,” Jenner said.

She added that the situation weighed heavily on her because she felt responsible for the fans’ frustration.

“I couldn’t handle it because I really wanted to just make everyone happy,” she explained.

Kris Jenner also recalled how quickly the products sold out when they first became available.

“I remember watching how many people were waiting online for the launch,” Kris said. “It was unbelievable. It was hundreds of thousands of people. You could see it in real time on our analytics system.”

Kylie revealed that she funded the early stages of the company largely with her own savings.

“My mom was like, ‘You’re going to be left with lots of lip kits in your garage if this doesn’t work out,’” Jenner said. “And it wasn’t even a thought that it wasn’t going to work out.”

Since then, Kylie Cosmetics has expanded far beyond its original lip kits. The brand now offers a wide range of makeup products along with fragrance and skincare lines.
