Barbra Streisand will receive the honorary Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced Wednesday.

The special award recognizes Streisand’s decades-long impact on film, music and popular culture. Over a career spanning more than 60 years, the American entertainer has built a legacy as a performer, director and producer.

Streisand first gained international film recognition with her Oscar-winning role in Funny Girl in 1969. She later starred in acclaimed films such as The Way We Were and Yentl, the latter of which she also directed and produced.

Across her career, Streisand has received two Academy Awards, 10 Grammy Awards and numerous other honors recognizing her contributions to entertainment.

Festival organizers said her influence extends far beyond awards, noting her lasting cultural impact across film, music and theater.

The announcement comes as the Cannes Film Festival prepares for another high-profile edition in May.

This year’s jury will be led by celebrated South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, known for visually distinctive and internationally acclaimed films including Oldboy and Decision to Leave.

The 79th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place in May and is expected to draw major filmmakers and stars from around the world.
