Daniel Neeson, the son of acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, has revealed that he recently underwent heart surgery after living his entire life with a congenital heart condition.

The 29-year-old entrepreneur shared the personal health update in an Instagram post on March 3, explaining that he was born with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), a rare heart defect that affects roughly 1–2% of the population. The condition means the aortic valve has two leaflets instead of the normal three, which can increase the risk of complications over time.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, BAV can lead to serious health issues such as aortic enlargement, valve dysfunction, and heart strain if it progresses.

Daniel explained that although he had monitored the condition for years through regular cardiology check-ups every six months, doctors eventually discovered that the problem had advanced more quickly than expected.

Medical tests revealed severe dilation of the left ventricle and enlargement of the aorta, making surgery necessary sooner than he had hoped.

“I had hoped to postpone surgery until later in life,” Daniel wrote in his post. “But it seems I drew the early-bird straw.”

Despite the unexpected timing, Daniel said the experience reinforced the importance of staying proactive about health.

“Understanding your health, staying proactive, and planning ahead is incredibly empowering,” he wrote. “Health isn’t about reacting—it’s about being proactive.”

Reflecting on the diagnosis, Daniel described the surreal realization that a serious condition had been developing quietly inside his body for years without obvious warning signs.

“It’s surreal to realize that one of your biggest challenges has been silently developing within you your entire life,” he wrote. “There was no dramatic warning—just science, genetics, and timing.”

During the process, Daniel said he had to let go of control and trust the medical professionals responsible for his care, including surgeons, nurses, and intensive care staff.

“While I couldn’t control the outcome, I realized I could control my mindset,” he explained. “Overcoming this wasn’t about fearlessness. It was about embracing the healing process and staying present.”

He described approaching the operation almost like a personal ritual rather than simply a medical procedure.

“I approached the operation as a ceremony,” he wrote.

Following the surgery, Daniel encouraged others to take their health seriously and advocate for themselves, particularly when it comes to heart health.

He advised people to schedule regular check-ups with cardiologists and pay attention to their bodies, even if they feel healthy.

“Above all, embrace the present moment,” he wrote. “Don’t let fear dictate your life.”

Daniel also used the moment to thank his fiancée, Natalie Ackerman, who supported him throughout the experience. The couple became engaged in September 2023 after being together for eight years.
