Bruce Campbell has revealed he is undergoing treatment for cancer, though the beloved Evil Dead star has chosen not to disclose the specific type of illness.

The 67-year-old actor shared the news with fans in a message posted on X, explaining that the condition is considered treatable but not curable. Campbell said the diagnosis came as a shock to him, but he remains determined to face the challenge with optimism.

“Hey everyone, nowadays when someone faces a health challenge, it’s often called an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s roll with that—I’m experiencing one of those,” Campbell wrote. “It’s a form of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ rather than ‘curable.’ I’m sorry if this comes as a shock—believe me, I was stunned too.”

The announcement quickly drew attention online, with his post receiving more than two million views within hours as fans flooded the comments with messages of support and encouragement.

Campbell explained that he decided to share the news publicly because the treatment will affect his professional schedule. Appearances, conventions, and some work commitments will need to be postponed while he focuses on his health.

He also clarified that he plans to keep many details about the diagnosis private.

“The silver lining is that I won’t be sharing more specifics,” Campbell said, adding that he wanted to make the announcement himself before rumors or misinformation began circulating.

The actor hopes to regain strength over the coming months and return to work later this year. He said his goal is to recover enough by the summer so he can promote his upcoming film Ernie & Emma in the fall.

Because of the treatment schedule, Campbell confirmed he will have to cancel several fan conventions planned for the summer. He said he regrets disappointing fans but emphasized that his health must take priority.

“Sometimes treatment needs and work obligations just don’t mesh,” he wrote.

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Campbell tried to reassure supporters that he remains determined and supported by those around him.

“Don’t worry, I’m one tough old bird with a great support system,” he said. “I plan to stick around.”

The announcement came shortly after Campbell shared news about Ernie & Emma, a road-trip comedy he produced alongside his wife, Ida Gearon. The film follows a widowed pear salesman traveling across the country to scatter his wife’s ashes.

Campbell first rose to cult fame playing Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic The Evil Dead. He later reprised the iconic role in Evil Dead II and continued to be closely associated with the franchise. He is also serving as executive producer on the upcoming film Evil Dead Burn, which is expected to receive a theatrical release in June.

Outside of his career, Campbell is the father of two children, Rebecca and Andy, from his previous marriage to Christine Deveau.
