Elsie Hewitt is speaking candidly about a deeply personal parenting choice—and she’s not apologizing for it.
In a raw essay for Elle, the 29-year-old model and actress revealed she chose not to breastfeed her newborn daughter, Scottie Rose, whom she welcomed with comedian Pete Davidson in December. For Hewitt, the decision wasn’t about convenience—it was about survival and presence.
“Becoming a mom inherently involves sacrifice,” she wrote. “I knew that if I breastfed, I wouldn’t be able to be as present a mother as I’ve become.” After carrying her daughter for nine months, Hewitt said she didn’t want to remain her baby’s sole source of nourishment in a way that would further exhaust her physically and emotionally. She also wanted Davidson to share feeding responsibilities and bond equally with their daughter.

Hewitt emphasized how grateful she felt that no one pressured her either way. Her partner remained neutral, and her mother—who breastfed her own children—told her the choice was entirely hers. Even her OB-GYN and hospital staff respected her autonomy. That freedom, she said, made all the difference.
The couple announced Scottie’s arrival on December 18, sharing tender photos while keeping her face private behind a white heart emoji. Now, as a first-time mom, Hewitt is making it clear: the best choice is the one that allows her to show up fully for her child—even if it defies expectations.
