Miss J Alexander is getting candid about his recovery—and who showed up for him after his life-changing health scare.
The former America’s Next Top Model judge revealed that Tyra Banks has not visited him since he suffered a stroke in 2022. During a February 19 appearance on Sherri alongside fellow ANTM alums Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel, the 67-year-old runway coach shared that while Banks did initially reach out, she has not made a personal visit during his recovery.
Alexander noted that several celebrities—including Angela Bassett, Alfre Woodard, and George Lopez—came to see him as he worked to regain his strength. Looking straight into the camera, he made his feelings clear: “Ty didn’t.” He acknowledged that Banks contacted him when the stroke first happened and was in Los Angeles at the time, but said there was no follow-up visit.
Host Sherri Shepherd pointed out the history between the two, reminding viewers that Alexander had known Banks since she was 17 and even helped shape her runway walk. Nigel Barker added that regardless of a busy schedule, showing up matters when someone you care about is going through something serious. When asked directly whether Banks’ absence hurt him, Alexander answered simply: “Yes.”
In Netflix’s new docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Alexander opens up about the devastating impact of the stroke, which left him unable to walk. For someone who built a legendary career teaching models how to command the runway, the loss has been especially painful. “I taught models how to walk, and now I can’t walk,” he says in the series, reflecting on the emotional toll of his recovery.
