The upcoming Harry Potter TV series is being positioned as nothing less than a game changer, at least according to the executive overseeing Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming strategy. With HBO Max preparing to bring the wizarding world back to screens, the studio is already setting sky-high expectations.

J.B. Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, recently teased the scale of the project and did not hold back. He said the Harry Potter series is shaping up to be the biggest streaming event in HBO Max’s history and possibly the biggest in streaming overall. According to Perrette, what producer David Heyman and the creative team are building goes far beyond typical television ambition.

Perrette praised the production’s attention to detail and described the scope as unlike anything seen before on TV. He suggested the series is not just aiming to elevate television storytelling, but to redefine what a streaming series can be. He also pointed out that the long-form format allows the show to explore storylines and character depth that the original films simply did not have time to cover.

The executive doubled down on his bold claims, saying the show will dominate conversation once it launches. He added that bringing the series to key markets like the UK is a major priority and that anticipation within the company is already intense. While acknowledging that some colleagues might be uneasy with such confident predictions, Perrette said he is convinced the show will become the streaming event of the decade.

The series has already drawn attention for its casting choices. Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. A lineup of well-known actors will portray Hogwarts staff, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Additional cast members include Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Warwick Davis returning to the wizarding world as Professor Filius Flitwick. With production scale, casting buzz, and executive hype all converging, HBO Max’s Harry Potter series is already shaping up to be one of the most closely watched projects in streaming.
