Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have officially ended their nearly decade-long relationship, quietly confirming their split as 2025 comes to a close.
The 69-year-old Oscar-winning actor and director and his longtime partner, 34-year-old writer and filmmaker Rosalind Ross, revealed in a joint statement that they’ve been living apart for the past year. The couple emphasized that while their romantic chapter has ended, their commitment to raising their 8-year-old son, Lars, remains strong.
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” they told People in an exclusive statement.
Unlike many high-profile Hollywood breakups, Gibson and Ross’s separation appears to be free of drama or scandal. According to sources close to the couple, the split was a gradual and amicable decision. “There was no big fight or betrayal—they just grew apart,” an insider shared. While their 34-year age gap may have played a minor role, those close to the pair insist it wasn’t the driving factor.
Career ambitions reportedly contributed to the distance between them. Ross, who has been branching out in writing and directing, is said to be focused on building her own creative path. Gibson, meanwhile, continues to juggle several film projects—including his long-anticipated sequel The Resurrection of the Christ, which he’s producing, co-writing, and directing for a 2027 release.
Despite their split, the pair showed unity earlier this year when wildfires devastated parts of Los Angeles, damaging their home. With Gibson working abroad at the time, he ensured Ross and Lars were safe and supported, underscoring the mutual respect that remains between them.
Gibson and Ross began dating in 2014, welcoming their son two years later. Lars is the youngest of Gibson’s nine children, joining a large blended family that includes seven adult children from his marriage to Robyn Moore and daughter Lucia, 16, from his relationship with Oksana Grigorieva.
As the year ends, the couple’s quiet separation stands in stark contrast to Hollywood’s usual spectacle—proof that sometimes even the most public figures can choose to part ways privately and with grace.
