Tara Reid has spoken out following what she calls a “truly heartbreaking” decision by Chicago police to close their investigation into her alleged drugging at a local bar last November.
In a statement to Page Six, the American Pie actress expressed deep frustration and emotional exhaustion over how the case was handled—and how she has been portrayed since. “The relentless bullying and misrepresentation of facts by people who weren’t even there is seriously impacting my mental health,” Reid said. “They’re painting a false picture, suggesting I chugged wine and ended up on a stretcher. But the footage tells a different story entirely.”
Reid, now 50, maintains she barely touched her drink during the 30 minutes she spent at the bar after returning from a smoke break with an acquaintance. She even declined a second drink, telling the bartender she hadn’t finished her first. The actress also told The Daily Mail that a critical 33 minutes of CCTV footage were missing from the official investigation, a gap she believes could have been vital in proving her case.
Authorities in Rosemont, Illinois, confirmed to People magazine that the case was closed on December 11, citing insufficient evidence to move forward. “We’re not saying her claims are false,” a police spokesperson said, “but the evidence available does not show any drugging incident.” They also confirmed the surveillance gap but stated that all parties interviewed gave consistent statements, adding that “a bartender covered her drink when she left the bar, which is standard protocol.”
Despite the closure, the story took another twist when a new witness came forward to dispute online rumors and YouTuber claims surrounding Reid’s behavior that night. Flight attendant and nurse Kathy Lain told The Daily Mail she saw a man leaning toward a woman who appeared “disoriented and struggling to keep her head up.” According to Lain, the woman told the man, “You want to f*** me,” to which he replied, “maybe.” The woman then asked the bartender to call security, visibly alarmed by the exchange.
Even so, a police report dated December 3 stated that while surveillance footage confirmed Reid’s presence at the hotel bar, “no visual evidence of drink tampering was found.” The department’s conclusion—that there was simply not enough proof to proceed—has left Reid devastated.
For now, the actress says she’s focusing on her mental health and hoping the public will stop spreading misinformation about the incident. But her statement makes one thing clear: she’s not ready to let the matter fade quietly.
