It seems Tom Cruise can’t catch a break—on screen or off. The Mission: Impossible star, long known for his Hollywood charm and relentless drive, is reportedly struggling to reconnect with David Beckham, who appears to be keeping the superstar at arm’s length.
According to insiders, Cruise has been reaching out to rekindle their once-close friendship, but the British soccer icon has been politely dodging his calls.
“David appreciates Tom, but only in small doses,” a source told The Daily Mail. “He finds Tom’s intensity overwhelming beyond brief encounters.”
The Beckhams—who split their time between London and Miami—have rarely crossed paths with Cruise in recent years, even as the actor spends more time in the U.K. hosting elite gatherings and networking events in high-society circles.
“Tom consistently reaches out, but keeps getting turned down,” the insider continued. “It’s really getting under his skin. He’s determined to rebuild that friendship—especially now that Ana’s gone. With more time on his hands, he’s focused on expanding his U.K. circle, and having David on his side would be huge.”
Cruise and Beckham’s friendship first blossomed in 2007, when the soccer star and his wife Victoria Beckham moved to Los Angeles for David’s stint with the LA Galaxy. The Beckhams leaned heavily on Cruise and then-wife Katie Holmes, who helped introduce them to Hollywood’s elite.
But the relationship began to cool in later years amid rumors that Cruise had pushed the couple to explore Scientology, which they declined. Despite the tension, Victoria extended an olive branch by inviting Tom to her lavish 50th birthday party in London last year—sparking speculation of a renewed friendship.
However, sources claim that Cruise took the invite as a green light to resume constant contact, and Beckham has reportedly grown weary of his persistence.
“Most people would take the hint and stop calling—but not Tom,” one insider said. “He’s like a dog with a bone when he wants something. He’s been sending gifts—those famous coconut cakes, even personalized cufflinks—to try and win David over.”
But it seems the soccer star isn’t biting. “Tom doesn’t get that this isn’t a relationship he can manage or control,” the source added. “He’d have more luck if he just backed off. But Tom doesn’t exactly take advice well.”
The renewed tension comes as Cruise faces personal upheaval following his split from Ana de Armas. Reports claim Ana ended their nine-month romance because she felt “suffocated” by his controlling nature. “Tom tried to plan everything—from her image to her career,” one source said. “At first, she was flattered. But it quickly became too much.”
Now, insiders say Cruise has redirected that energy toward repairing his public image in Britain—and winning back old friends like the Beckhams may be his latest mission.
