My Daily reporter Kang Da Yoon reported that a Japanese woman who unexpectedly kissed BTS member Jin has been brought to trial. The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutor’s Office announced on November 17 that a Japanese woman in her fifties, identified only as A, was indicted without detention on charges of sexual assault on November 12.
She is accused of suddenly kissing Jin on the cheek during a free hug event at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa gu, Seoul, held in June of last year after Jin completed his military service and met with one thousand fans. After the incident, some BTS fans filed a complaint through the National Police Agency urging an investigation into A for violating the Sexual Violence Prevention and Victims Protection Act, which prompted a formal inquiry.
Songpa Police Station initially listed A as a suspect and requested her appearance but later suspended the case in March due to expectations of a lengthy process. When A reentered the country, she voluntarily presented herself for questioning, and following the investigation Songpa Police determined that the allegations were substantiated and forwarded the case to the prosecution.
