Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team is reportedly considering releasing portions of the police statement he gave earlier this year in connection with his ongoing lawsuit against the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron and journalist Kim Se Ui.
On Thursday, Kim Soo Hyun’s attorney Ko Sang Rok shared an update on his personal channel, writing, “We may release parts of the statement the actor gave in April. However, nothing has been finalized.”
Ko Sang Rok added, “I understand how painful this situation has been for fans. Please don’t be too distressed. We haven’t made a final decision yet because we’re concerned it might cause even more emotional pain. We’ll take time to think carefully before proceeding.”
The controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun first emerged earlier this year when rumors spread that he had dated Kim Sae Ron while she was still a minor. Kim Soo Hyun initially denied the allegations but later acknowledged that they had dated after she became an adult.
As public scrutiny intensified, Kim Soo Hyun held a press conference in March, asserting that the KakaoTalk messages presented by Kim Sae Ron’s family had been fabricated. He strongly denied the claims and said he was the target of false accusations.
Following this, Kim Soo Hyun filed a lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and journalist Kim Se Ui, citing violations of South Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act, defamation, and seeking 12 billion KRW (approximately 8.2 million USD) in damages.
The fallout from the scandal has taken a toll on Kim Soo Hyun’s career. His upcoming Disney+ series Knock-Off has been placed on indefinite hold, and several advertising contracts have been suspended. Industry insiders estimate that the penalties from these withdrawn endorsements could total more than 20 billion KRW (around 13.7 million USD).
Most recently, Ko Sang Rok refuted one of the most serious allegations, saying, “The claim that the actor maintained a six-year romantic relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron starting when she was in middle school, and engaged in inappropriate behavior, is entirely false and without any factual basis.” He added that evidence had been submitted to support their position and counter the accusations.
