TWS members Dohoon and Youngjae recently revealed their unique paths into the entertainment industry, citing street casting and recruitment via Instagram direct messages (DMs), respectively.
On October 12, the online channel ggondaehee released a video titled, Boneless Braised Spicy Chicken Meal with TWS Dohoon and Youngjae: Celebrating Their Comeback.
During the interview, Dohoon recounted his serendipitous entry into the industry.Back in 2018, when he was in my first year of middle school, he attended the elementary school’s graduation ceremony wearing a white puffer jacket. A stranger approached him asking if he had representation. Although it wasn’t his current agency, he handed over his number anyway. He rushed home to tell his mom he’d been scouted, but she immediately asked if he’d received a business card. That’s when he realized he had only given out his number.
He continued saying that feeling deflated, he returned to the ceremony. As it was concluding, he was approached again—this time by someone from his current agency. He made sure to get a business card and the recruiter’s pitch was compelling: Our company represents Seventeen. He thought that this opportunity is too good to pass up, and that’s how he ended up here.
Youngjae’s story was equally intriguing. He entered the industry at 16 through an Instagram DM, he recalled, noting that he had received multiple offers via direct message at the time. After careful consideration, he chose this agency.
Dohoon also reminisced about his first impression of Youngjae, who hails from Gimhae and speaks with a distinct regional accent. Youngjae shared that when he first joined as a trainee, he introduced himself to the group, including Dohoon, saying, Hello, I’m Choi Youngjae from Gimhae in his strong dialect. Dohoon, mimicking Youngjae’s accent, added that his accent was even more pronounced. As a Seoul native, he found this young, innocent fellow with such a strong accent incredibly endearing. They couldn’t help but laugh—it was just so charming.
Fans can look forward to TWS upcoming release, as the group is set to drop their fourth mini-album play hard on Monday.
