Lee Young Ae is set to make a powerful return to television with a dramatic new role in Walking on Thin Ice, a psychological thriller premiering this September on KBS2.
The mini-series follows Kang Eun Soo, a devoted mother pushed to the brink by her husband’s worsening illness and crushing financial debt. When Eun Soo unexpectedly crosses paths with her daughter’s seemingly mild-mannered art teacher, Lee Kyung (played by Kim Young Kwang), the discovery of an abandoned bag of drugs pulls them into a dangerous and morally complex alliance. What begins as desperation quickly spirals into a high-stakes journey where survival demands difficult choices, and crossing lines she never thought she’d consider.
In her role as Eun Soo, Lee Young Ae steps far from her previous characters, portraying a woman trapped between duty and despair. Her performance promises to deliver emotional depth and strength, highlighting the internal fractures of a mother fighting for her family at all costs.

The recently released teaser poster adds to the intrigue. It features Lee Young Ae suspended upside down against a wide expanse of blue sky, evoking a sense of weightlessness and disorientation. Her subtle, enigmatic smile conveys a complex mix of hope, resignation, and liberation, all in a single haunting image.
Cut across the center of the poster is the chilling question: “Which was worse, then or now?” The line hints at the psychological toll Eun Soo faces and the impossible decisions ahead.
“This teaser poster visually captures the turning point in Eun Soo’s life,” the production team shared. “Watching a veteran actress like Lee Young Ae portray a character falling apart and slowly rebuilding will offer viewers a truly immersive emotional experience.”
