One of the hottestly anticipated fantasy action films of the summer, Omniscient Reader, just unveiled its character posters and a gripping teaser trailer—and they’re already making waves.
Omniscient Reader follows the story of Kim Dok Ja, the sole reader of a web novel that has been serialized for over 10 years. When the fictional world of the novel suddenly becomes a reality on the day it concludes, Kim Dok Ja must team up with the novel’s protagonist Yoo Jong Hyuk and allies to survive in a now-apocalyptic world.
The newly released character posters capture the overwhelming presence of the characters brought to life by a perfect cast. First, Ahn Hyo Seop‘s intense gaze as Kim Dok Ja, the only person who’s read the decade-long serialized novel, immediately grabs attention. His tagline—”I’m the only reader who knows how this world ends”—sparks curiosity about how he’ll use his unique knowledge of the story’s developments.

Lee Min Ho‘s character poster as Yoo Jong Hyuk, the novel’s protagonist, features the line: “Why did the world become like this?” heightening anticipation about how the fictional world-turned-reality will unfold on screen. Chae Soo Bin portrays Yoo Sang Ah, who experiences the moment fiction becomes a reality alongside Kim Dok Ja. Her line—”Do we have to fight like this every day here?”—reveals her shock at the situation. Though initially stunned by the fictional world materializing before her very eyes, she quickly joins Dok Ja in battling unprecedented enemies to survive.
Shin Seung Ho plays Lee Hyun Sung, a powerful ally who wonders, “How do you know all these things, Dok Ja?” Though initially suspicious, he gradually builds trust with Dok Ja and becomes a reliable shield for the group. Nana portrays Jung Hee Won, a justice-driven fighter with equal intensity, who warns, “There’s still one left. Someone who’s given up on being human.”
Jisoo appears as Lee Ji Hye, a high school student who calls Yoo Jong Hyuk “master” and confronts Dok Ja’s group with the harsh truth: “In this world, only the strongest survive.” Kwon Eun Seong rounds out the cast as Lee Gil Young, a young boy with the ability to communicate with insects who joins Dok Ja’s journey.

In the trailer, Kim Dok Ja, an ordinary office worker, encounters the shocking moment when the fictional world becomes a reality during his subway commute home. When an announcement declares, “The paid service begins as of the current time,” he immediately realizes, “That’s exactly how the novel started!” Chaos ensues when a goblin suddenly appears announcing, “All humans will be assigned scenarios. Kill at least one living thing.”
The ordinary world vanishes, replaced by a completely different reality where killing is necessary for survival. Omniscient Reader will hit theaters nationwide this July.
